The feed screw is the core component of the grinding unit: it rotates inside the cylinder and pushes the meat from the hopper towards the perforated plate and self-sharpening blade, ensuring smooth, continuous feeding of the machine. On model 8 meat grinders the grinding unit typically runs at around 80 rpm.

Compared to aluminium screws, the stainless steel version is more resistant to wear and corrosion, does not oxidise on contact with salt and moisture, and better withstands frequent washing, keeping the diameter and thread profile intact over time.
