The Cimbali blind filter is a filter basket with no holes that fits into the portafilter in place of the normal coffee filter: it is used together with a specific detergent (e.g. Puly Caff) to perform backflushing, the reverse-flow cleaning of the brew group.

Thanks to the blind filter, water and detergent are pushed in reverse through the valve and brew group, dissolving the oily coffee residues that build up inside the internal ducts: periodic backflushing with this accessory keeps the group clean and preserves extraction quality. Replace it when the gasket or the filter body is worn and no longer seals properly during cleaning.
