The blade guard ring is the safety component that surrounds the blade edge and prevents the operator from accidentally touching the rotating edge during use; the bracket is the plastic part that anchors the ring to the slicer body, keeping it in the correct position relative to the disc.

Replace it when it is broken or cracked, or when the play between bracket and ring becomes excessive and the ring no longer stays firmly in place: being a safety component, a loose fitting should be restored immediately.
