Replace it when the blades are bent, cracked or broken, or when the unit runs noisily and vibrates due to imbalance: a damaged fan reduces airflow, strains the motor and can end up touching the guard or the coil. When replacing it, also check that the motor shaft turns freely and without play: if the motor itself is noisy or seized, the problem is not just the impeller.
