When to replace it: a burnt or shorted coil is the most frequent solenoid valve fault. Typical symptoms on a dishwasher are no water filling or no rinse even though the machine is powered, a valve that hums without opening, or a burnt smell near the coil. Checking the winding continuity with a multimeter confirms the fault: an open circuit or an out-of-range resistance means the coil must be replaced.

Replacement does not require opening the water circuit: with the machine unplugged from the mains, disconnect the connector, slide the coil off the valve stem and fit the new one.
