Blade-guard tie-rod bushing for the Omas GL Matic slicer. It is the bush/spacer that works together with the blade-guard tie rod (threaded rod): it guides the tie rod, keeps it correctly aligned and takes up the play between the blade guard and its seat on the machine, so the guard stays properly positioned over the non-cutting edge of the blade.

The blade guard is a safety component: it covers the unsharpened edge of the disc and protects the operator during use and cleaning. A worn bushing with excessive play lets the tie rod and the guard move, compromising fit and safety; in such cases it should be replaced.
